World Playlist Cont'd

As many of you know, especially if you have traveled with me and had the unfortunate experience of having to put up with this particular neurosis, I tend to duck out of tours and crowds in special destinations to dig into the thousands of songs on my IPOD to find one that speaks to me of that place. Sometimes it takes a few tries -- not all songs "stick" but eventually one seems to fit just right, even if they don't necessarily make sense to an outsider and only make sense to me.

Later, listening to this song can take me back to that place and that moment -- more often than not, it is more powerful than a photo or even a video. It is like a melodic image burned into my consciousness. It keeps me connected. And someday I hope my child will enjoy the same songs that spoke to me in these same magnificent places.
