Sleep in a Treehouse overnight

Ok, this is a childhood deprivation entry...I always wanted a treehouse as a child. I was kind of obsessed with it, actually. I entered every single contest I could find where I could win a treehouse. Alas, I never had a treehouse, despite my best efforts. I bet you are shedding tears for me, aren't you, dear reader? ;) Anyway, that is the origin of this particular goal...

The Out n' About Treesort is one of only a handful of its kind around the world, and has been featured in virtually every travel magazine you can probably think of, as well as the New York Times, etc. There is a reason for this...it is AMAZING! You feel like you are living like Peter Pan for a little while!!!!

The place started as a bed and breakfast (so we were told) but the owner had one treehouse in front of the lodge (the first and most famous treehouse, Peacock Perch) for kids to play in. He kept having people ask him how much it was to stay in the treehouse. Taken a bit off-guard, he said $50 bucks on a whim...and people started staying there. That was how it began...but when the local law enforcement found out about it, they told him he needed to stop selling "hotel stays" in rooms that weren't up to code. So, to get around this dilemma, he offered $50 dollar t-shirts to guests that included a stay in the treehouse. Additional treehouses were built, and when the place started gaining international notoriety, local authorities left them alone. P.S. The price has changed just a bit, too! ;)

You would think that staying in a treehouse 30 feet above ground with a tree trunk literally stabbing it right through the middle, with nothing other than the tree itself supporting it...you would think this would inspire some sort of terror. But for me, it was a magical experience. Add the zipline, the Tarzan swing, and the rope bridges that connected many of the treehouses together, and I couldn't ask for a better experience.

Our treehouse was called "Pleasantree" and slept up to 6 people. It had its own little bathroom, and a loft a.k.a. the "Master Suite". The front porch was perfect for late night reading and Jenga.

There were other treehouses themed around pirates, Swiss Family Robinson, etc.

I should note that the place is mostly a family-oriented place, but the night we were there, a bunch of bachelor party people were gathered together around the campfire giving each other permanent tattoos of treehouses using sewing needles, a bottle of alcohol, and ink. Good times... ;)
