First Aid/CPR Certification

One of the things I envy about kids who went through the Scouts program is all of the great stuff they got to learn as they earned their merit badges. I grew up in a family where we didn't go camping ever ... I mean, not ONCE. And as far as the Girl Scouts go, I don't recall ever knowing such a thing existed until I was in my early teens. So, I am having to make up for some lost time here. Learning how to do all that outdoorsy survival stuff is part of that. So, on that note...

There are few things that could compel me to get out of bed early on a Saturday morning -- not to mention wandering out to my car and spending a goodly amount of time scraping 1/2 inch of ice off my windshield. Taking the second half of my eight-hour First Aid/CPR certification class was inspiration enough since I was determined to get a goal checked off my life list before the first week of the New Year was over (don't ask me why, just one of those things).

Anyway, I learned a lot in this course -- I had taken a course before when I was about 15 years old and I don't remember learning any of the stuff I learned this time around. This was a lot more in depth.

Later that day as I was carrying stuff around in two feet of snow with some friends (don't ask) I thought -- well -- this is great! If any of us has a heart attack or starts to show symptoms of hypothermia I know just what to do. Thankfully, I didn't have to utilize my mad CPR skills.
