Yellowstone National Park
So this entry was a long time in coming, considering that
out trip to Yellowstone was last May. I have
to say I learned a lot on this trip… mainly on how stupid I am when it comes to
the outdoors sometimes!
While it was freezing in Utah
I was happily looking forward to the warmth of Yellowstone…
I had visions of bears frolicking in the summer mist and women in sundresses
gazing upon Old Faithful. Man, was I wrong. My
wardrobe was completely wrong for the journey, a mistake I realized a little
too late.
Luckily, I had brought one precious pair of sweatpants, and
I have been schooled in the art of wearing the same outfit over and over again
for days at a time (I learned how to do this all too well on a trip to Kenya when the
airline lost my luggage). It also helped that we were sleeping in an Airstream complete
with internal heating system!
Yellowstone is a gorgeous
place. Upon arrival we quickly purchased a book on local lore… particularly
ghost stories that made all the places we were seeing resonate so much more.
There were tales of ghosts on the lake, deaths on nearby mountains overseeing
Mammoth Hot Springs, and even a cemetery right in the middle of the park! My
favorite tales were of the headless bride hanging out in the Old Faithful Inn
and also a young boy who supposedly wanders the terrace there.
Here is me telling one of these tales in elegant style. Yup.

Seeing Old Faithful was a
somewhat miserable experience because it was a particularly cold day. Ugh. I
think out of all the beautiful things we saw, the one that will stand out the
most to me are the waterfalls. It really reminded me of Niagara
Falls, being that close to pounding water, so powerful, especially Lower Falls.
And we were lucky enough to see a Grizzly Bear! With two bear cubs!!!!
