Maine

Maine... a place that has always hearkened to my mind images of seafarers, lighthouses, and other nautical whimsy. Luckily for me, I was not disappointed.

I swear, almost immediately after getting off the airplane I saw a man who fit the seafarer M.O. with his grizzly beard, pipe, and sailor's outfit. It get's better...my mother rented a beach house in Higgin's Beach, a charming neighborhood complete with houses that look like lighthouses.

The ocean was gorgeous, the beach was gorgeous, the weather was mild. Mini shopping trips to adorable antiques stores and late movies with the girls (my aunt, my mother, my sister and me) reminded me that what truly makes a vacation is the people you spend it with.

We stopped by Henry W. Longfellow's house, which was fun. But my favorite moment was at the Maine Headlight, said to be the most photographed lighthouse in the world. Isn't it gorgeous?
